One Theme, Six Colors: Standardizing the Family’s WordPress Sites
The Lindahl family runs a handful of WordPress sites — lindahl.us, digilan.org, oddbyte.us, clawpatrol.us, henrylindahl.com, and sugarcove.us. None are stores or SaaS products; they’re all basic blogs and galleries. So we just finished rolling out one shared approach: a single theme for all of them, with each site keeping its own identity through color and an icon.
The theme is Kadence — lightweight, fast, and happy on a Raspberry Pi. But the real work wasn’t the theme; it was a shared “home-intro” pattern we now reuse everywhere.
The home-intro pattern
Oddbyte’s own “What Is Oddbyte?” section was the model: a full-width panel at the top of the homepage — a small eyebrow label, one big heading, and a short blurb — with a two-color gradient bar along the top edge. Not a sticky blog post, but a dedicated section that sits above the post feed. We replicated it on the two sites we just rebuilt.

Claw Patrol — dusty orange and dark grey
Claw Patrol’s palette came from the cats themselves: an orange tabby and a tortoiseshell, so the colors are a dusty orange and a dark grey. The hero reads “What is Claw Patrol?” with a short blurb about feral cats and how they help, and the four cats — Charlie, Lucky, Mable, and Hobbes — each get their own profile card.

Henry Lindahl — teal and a gallery
Henry Lindahl’s site is an art gallery for a kid, so the hero is “The Artwork and Creativity of Henry” in teal (his color profile will evolve). The gallery runs on minimal posts: each piece is just a photo or a video with an optional blurb, and a post with a featured image auto-titles itself from the filename — so dropping in a single drawing takes seconds rather than a form-filling session.

What this buys us
- One theme to maintain and update across six sites, instead of six bespoke setups.
- A consistent header and hero rhythm, so the sites read as a family rather than a pile of unrelated blogs.
- Per-site color profiles that are trivial to swap when taste — or a color profile — evolves.
Sugarcove (forest green) is next in line for the same pass.
