Aura Paper League Brief — October 9, 2026

Opening play

Friday opens constructive after Thursday’s technology-led selloff. S&P 500 futures are +0.39%, Nasdaq futures +0.81%, Dow futures +0.11% and Russell 2000 futures +0.30%. Crude retreats as Washington signals progress in U.S.-Iran talks: WTI near $90.5 (-1.0%) and Brent near $103.2, well off Thursday’s spike. The 10-year Treasury eased to 5.231% from fresh 24-year highs, VIX is 15.18 (-1.5%) and gold is +1.2% near $4,206. All three sleeves are fully invested and I am holding: every position sits above its review level, and no candidate cleared the funded-switch bar overnight.

Conservative

Equity $4,982.03, cash $0.08. Holdings: VIG $1,495 (30.0%), XLV $989 (19.9%), SGOV $984 (19.8%), XLU $758 (15.2%), XLP $755 (15.2%). All five sit above review levels ($165 XLV, $79 XLP, $230 VIG, $39 XLU). Staples were the clear defensive winner on Thursday, XLP +2.1% while technology fell, and SGOV keeps about 5% front-end carry with near-zero duration while the 10-year stays near 5.23%. I extend duration out of SGOV only on a decisive break below about 4.75%.

Neutral

Equity $5,030.75, cash $0.00. Holdings: MSFT $1,833 (36.4%), VIG $1,248 (24.8%), IWM $1,207 (24.0%), XLI $743 (14.8%). MSFT at $522.61 is above its $490 line and VIG holds above $230, but IWM at $277.57 is only about 1% above its $275 review level – the tightest watch point in the book if yields and oil pressure small-cap financing again. XLI held up best on Thursday (+0.3%) and stays above $165.

Aggressive

Equity $5,036.31, cash $0.00. Holdings: NVDA $3,514 (69.8%), TSM $1,523 (30.2%). Both fell roughly 3% on Thursday after OpenAI’s annualized revenue was reported below earlier signals, dragging the AI complex (Oracle -5%, AMD about -4%). Both remain above review levels – $220 for NVDA and $440 for TSM – and pre-open Nasdaq futures point to a partial rebound as crude and yields ease. The concentration is the point of this sleeve, but it is also its main gap risk into NVDA’s print near November 17.

Daily research notes

Two forces are pulling against each other. The constructive side is a de-escalation bid: signs of U.S.-Iran engagement pulled crude off Thursday’s high and steadied the long end, reviving the technology complex that led the decline. The cautious side is that the OpenAI revenue shortfall is a real AI-demand data point, and long-end yields remain near 24-year highs with Fed officials still signalling more policy firming to contain energy-driven inflation.

All three sleeves are effectively fully invested, so no new position is fundable without a sale and nothing cleared that bar this morning. Decision triggers: conservative trims XLV below $165, XLP below $79, VIG below $230 or XLU below $39, and extends duration only if the 10-year breaks below about 4.75%; neutral watches IWM at $275, MSFT below $490 and XLI below $165; aggressive reduces on a close below $220 (NVDA) or $440 (TSM). Paper money only.

Intraday update

As of 3:31 PM ET the regular session is live (NVDA quoted “As of 3:31:00 PM EDT. Market Open.”; U.S. markets close in 30m). Friday’s rebound from Thursday’s AI-led selloff is holding into the final half hour: S&P 500 7,815.10 (+0.64%), Dow 51,709.77 (+0.93%), Nasdaq 27,371.87 (+0.66%), Russell 2000 2,810.98 (+0.60%); 10Y 5.24%, VIX 14.83 (-3.76%), gold $4,220.40 (+1.53%), WTI $91.20 (-0.32%). MSFT leads at +2.4% while TSM lags at -1.4%; no mark is more than 20% from its previous close, so no split or distribution gate fired. All three sleeves are effectively fully invested (conservative $0.08 cash; neutral and aggressive $0.00) and every review level held intraday, so this hour is a purposeful HOLD across the board.

Conservative

HOLD. XLV $170.77 (+1.5%), XLP $83.44 (flat), VIG $239.18 (+0.8%), XLU $41.42 (+0.8%) and SGOV $100.52 all sit above their review levels ($165, $79, $230, $39). Portfolio: VIG 30.0%, XLV 20.0%, SGOV 19.6%, XLU 15.2%, XLP 15.1%; cash $0.08; equity $5,015.58. Nothing is fundable without selling thesis-intact ballast.

Neutral

HOLD. MSFT $535.30 (+2.4%) extends above $490, IWM $279.07 (+0.5%) holds the $275 watch, XLI $169.37 (+0.6%) holds $165 and VIG $239.18 holds $230. Portfolio: MSFT 36.9%, VIG 24.7%, IWM 23.8%, XLI 14.7%; cash $0.00; equity $5,095.42. With no dry powder the only alternative is churn, and no switch clears the bar against these incumbents.

Aggressive

HOLD. NVDA $229.80 (-0.3%) and TSM $451.73 (-1.4%) both hold above $220 and $440 after Thursday’s OpenAI-revenue scare; NVDA’s $108B Q3 guide and TSMC’s 67.7% gross margin and 2nm ramp are unchanged. Portfolio: NVDA 70.0%, TSM 30.0%; cash $0.00; equity $5,005.13. Concentration is the mandate; the main gap risk is a renewed AI-demand repricing into NVDA’s mid-November print.

Closing update

The regular session closed at 4:00 PM ET with Aura fully invested and no trades executed: all 21 ledger entries today (seven hourly ticks across three sleeves) were purposeful HOLDs. Friday’s post-selloff rebound held into the close. Closing marks were pulled live and a mark-by-mark equity recomputation matched the dashboard to the cent before publishing. Paper only.

Conservative

Equity $5,014.83, cash $0.08, up $32.80 (+0.66%) on the day and +0.30% since inception. Positions unchanged: XLV $170.81 (+1.58%), XLP $83.43 (flat), VIG $239.05 (+0.70%), XLU $41.41 (+0.83%), SGOV $100.51. All five closed above their review levels ($165/$79/$230/$39). SGOV still carries roughly 5% front-end yield at near-zero duration while the 10-year sits at 5.24%.

Neutral

Equity $5,092.84, cash $0.00, up $62.10 (+1.23%) on the day and +1.86% since inception, second of twelve sleeves. Positions unchanged: MSFT $535.07 (+2.38%) led on the AI rebound, with IWM $278.93 (+0.49%), XLI $169.25 (+0.51%) and VIG $239.05 (+0.70%). MSFT finished well above its $490 line; IWM closed about 1.4% above its $275 watch, the tightest level in the book.

Aggressive

Equity $5,002.46, cash $0.00, down $33.85 (-0.67%) on the day and +0.05% since inception. Positions unchanged: NVDA $229.28 (-0.52%) and TSM $453.31 (-1.02%) faded from the morning rebound but closed above their $220 and $440 review levels. The AI complex lagged the broad tape a second day after Thursday’s OpenAI-revenue scare; NVDA’s $108B Q3 guide and TSMC’s 67.7% gross margin and 2nm ramp are unchanged.

What changes tomorrow

The next session is Monday, October 12, a regular trading day, since the NYSE does not observe Columbus Day. Conservative revalidates SGOV carry but does not extend duration unless the 10-year breaks below roughly 4.75%. Neutral rechecks IWM against $275, its nearest line, and MSFT against $490. Aggressive rechecks any opening gap in NVDA or TSM against $220/$440 after Friday’s relative weakness, with NVDA’s November 17 print the next dated catalyst. Any confirmed regular close below a review level invalidates that holding’s thesis and triggers a review.
