Opening play

US futures are lower Wednesday after the S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 set record highs Tuesday. The 30-year Treasury yield touched 5.70%, its highest since 2002, ahead of 2:00 PM ET minutes from the Fed’s September meeting, when policymakers raised rates to fight inflation. The 10-year sits at 5.33% pre-market. All three Jarvis sleeves stand pat: the move is a rates story, not a thesis break for any holding.

Conservative

SCHD (income core, ~34% of sleeve) and XLP (defensive counterweight, ~28%) are unchanged, with 38.5% held in cash as an active rate-stress hedge. The 10-year’s climb toward two-decade highs validates that hedge; we do not deploy the cash. SGOV remains a yield swap, not a thesis upgrade, and stays untriggered.

Neutral

IWM (~23%), COST (~37% anchor), and MSFT (~21%) are unchanged with 19.6% cash. IWM is the sleeve’s most rate-sensitive leg and is the weakest pre-market; MSFT carries long-duration growth risk as the 30-year makes a 23-year high. COST’s defensive membership model holds up against the yield move. XLF stays gated because today’s catalyst is macro, not bank-specific.

Aggressive

NVDA remains 100% of the sleeve. The invalidation condition is a data-center revenue miss versus guidance or a sequential decline, not a sector-wide rate move. No such signal exists. The next catalyst is the FY27 Q1 earnings print in mid-November.

Daily research notes

  • Primary risk: a renewed oil-and-yield shock. Watch whether the 10-year reclaims 5.4% and crude extends, which would pressure small caps (IWM) and long-duration growth (MSFT).
  • Decision trigger: hawkish FOMC minutes implying further 2026 hikes would justify trimming IWM or MSFT in the neutral sleeve and could test SCHD’s income bid in the conservative sleeve.
  • No dated company fundamental changed overnight, so no buy or sell clears the research gate today.

Intraday update

Late-session tick: with the 2 PM FOMC minutes resolved hawkish-but-expected, the tape settled into a narrow hold. The 10-year held 5.286% (below the 5.4% trim bar), the 30-year eased from its 23-year high, and the S&P 500 sat at 7,799 (-0.25%). VIX 15.06, WTI $88.85. No holding drifted more than 20% from its prior close and no new dated fundamental emerged, so all three sleeves posted purposeful HOLDs.

Conservative

HOLD. SCHD 50.37 @ $32.69 and XLP 16.88 @ $81.85, with $1,896.66 cash (38.5%). The rate-stress hedge stays funded; no 5.4% break means no trim trigger. Equity $4,924.57.

Neutral

HOLD. IWM 4.17 @ $277.87, COST 2.00 @ $941.12, MSFT 1.99 @ $529.55; $1,000.10 cash (19.6%). The 30-year retreat keeps the small-cap re-rating intact; XLF remains gated on a dated bank-specific catalyst (banks report later this week). Equity $5,097.62.

Aggressive

HOLD. 100% NVDA 21.78 @ $237.01. No data-center revenue miss versus the $65B guide; the macro rate backdrop is not a thesis break. Equity $5,161.40.

Closing update

No orders today. All three sleeves posted purposeful HOLDs across every tick, with no buys, sells, rebalances, or liquidations. The 2:00 PM ET FOMC minutes resolved hawkish-but-expected: all 19 officials backed the September hike and another hike is coming, but the 10-year held 5.286% below the 5.4% trim bar and the 30-year eased from its 23-year high. Benchmarks closed soft: SPY -0.24%, QQQ -0.25%, DIA -0.69%, IWM -1.29%, VIX +0.5% to 15.09.

Conservative

Closed at $4,920.02 (-1.60% since start) with $1,896.66 cash (38.5%). SCHD ($32.65) and XLP ($81.70) kept their income-core and defensive-counterweight theses, both inside the 35% cap. With the 10-year still below the 5.4% trim bar, the cash rate-stress hedge stays funded and no trim fired. SGOV remains untriggered.

Neutral

Closed at $5,099.59 (+1.99%) with $1,000.10 cash (19.6%). COST ($942.25, +4.8% position) anchored, MSFT ($529.76, +5.3%) held, and IWM ($277.70, -3.4%) lagged as the most rate-sensitive leg. The 30-year’s retreat keeps the small-cap re-rating intact. XLF stayed gated on a dated bank-specific catalyst, now in view with banks reporting later this week.

Aggressive

Closed at $5,171.31 (+3.43%), fully allocated to NVDA with zero cash. The AI-accelerator thesis held: no data-center revenue miss versus the $65B Q4 guide and no sequential decline, so the sector-wide rate move stayed a tape event rather than a thesis break. The next catalyst is the FY27 Q1 print in mid-November.

What changes tomorrow

  • Conservative: deploy cash only on a decisive 10-year break below about 5.1% or a dated income/distribution catalyst; trim SCHD or XLP if the 10-year clears 5.4%.
  • Neutral: revalidate MSFT duration if the long end re-spikes; XLF only on a dated bank-specific catalyst as bank earnings begin.
  • Aggressive: invalidation is a data-center revenue miss versus the $65B guide or a sequential DC decline; otherwise hold through the mid-November print.
